Doing the Dew, Old School Style

As somebody who does quite a bit of PHP coding daily, I end up seeing a lot of new coders failing to take precautions against simple attacks that can really screw you or your users and clients. You need to remember to protect against attacks such as SQL injection, Cross Site Scripting Attacks, Cross Site Request Forgery Attacks, and PHP variable insertion. You also need to remember that any of your forms that allow a user to enter data, and then mail is sent with some of that data can be exploited to send out spam emails, unless you set it up to prevent that. Spam being sent from your forms can cause problems for your customer or you. It can end up getting your server blacklisted for spam, and prevent emails from that website to go to your users. Please read the Basic PHP Security Guide for starters so that you have a better understanding of how to prevent these attacks. There is a lot of information online about preventing these, and if you want more information, you should do a search for that specific type of attack.
edit: Looks like Digg has hit their server hard, see a mirror on DuggMirror

We need to act to save the internet! Net neutrality is very serious. You may have seen this said all over the place, but if you’ve never paid attention to it, you need to read or watch a video about it. Unless we speak out to our members of Congress they could move to allow large telephone and cable companies to control what you do, where you go and what you watch online. Basically this means that unless some sites pay premiums to certain cable and phone companies, their content will either not show up, or be restricted from you accessing them. This is not freedom! We cannot let them limit something like this! This is not what our country stands for! Please watch the video below, and visit SaveTheInternet.com right away!
And don’t forget to check out the Campaign for Surpass! Watch the video on YouTube!

Here is my second part of my entry for the Surpass Hosting trip to Orlando contest!
What we did is showed up at the Citadel Mall in Colorado Springs, Colorado with two 24 packs of Mountain Dew all with a Surpass Blue paper on them showing some information about Surpass Hosting, as well as the link, www.surpasshosting.com

We also had a big yellow sign that said SurpassHosting.com on it.

We managed to stay out there for 40 minutes until security busted us. We had a few people that we talked to about Surpass for a couple of minutes each. Everybody had different reactions. Some were surprised, some amused, and some just stood their in awe of the awesomness of the Dew. Watch the 5 minute video below.
Please visit www.surpasshosting.com for all of your web hosting needs!
See the thread on Surmunity here
You can also download the video to watch on your computer. It is about 16MB, and in mp4 format. Click here.
Download the higher quality mp4, 75MB, here.
Voting iss up! Please for DewKnight’s trio of Surpassissness(ness) on the Surmunity website!

Get ready for tomorrow! Something awesome will be happening that involves the Mountain Dew Armor. It will be perfect for this Christmas season, because everybody will be out tomorrow night where we will be. Many, many people will see the Mountain Dew Armor, and also a certain something else. We have been drinking a lot of Mountain Dew to prepare for this, and it will be one of the greatest things that this world has ever seen! Booyah!
It also ended up snowing quite a bit here, finally stopped today. Here’s a picture of what it looks like, though there is more snow on the ground in areas with less trees.

The Halo Theme performed by a group of friends in a living room. Their band is called Corporeal and that is Dave Verlee on guitar, Hanah Stuart on violin, Dave Bedell on drum kit and Rob Leu on Bass. Very talented and I like the multiple camera angles! This is a very awesome movie, and it makes me want to go back to Halo 1, and play the whole campaign again. I can’t wait for Halo 3, and the Halo 3 multiplayer beta coming in spring!
You can see their Myspace here: http://myspace.com/corporealmusic
Bands having a Myspace is the one thing I am almost OK with. It’s not as good as a real website, but many can’t afford or make one themselves, so it helps get music out there that would have otherwise never been heard.

It’s snowing up here in Woodland Park. Quite a bit right now. There’s at least a foot, if not more, and it’s still coming down hard. Visibility aint that bad right now, compared to what it’s been.

My car is really bad in the snow, I have front wheel drive, I just get some better tires, but they’re still not that good in the snow, especially when they haven’t plowed at all. Trying to get through a foot of snow when you don’t even have a foot of ground clearance is hard.

The puppy is down with the snow though. This thing is a little spaz already, but when there’s snow, she freaks out, running all over the place

I showed up to work this morning, but it’s snowing so bad that everyone went home at noon. You can see some live webcams of Woodland Park here, but most of them are too snowed out.
