Doing the Dew, Old School Style

I was stumbling through pages tagged with photography and I remembered something that I really hate, and is used on a lot of photographer’s websites. The number one complaint is of course that it is flash. But mostly, it’s those stupid flash pages.
Almost every single photographer’s website has a flash page with a little logo, and text that says “enter” or “enter site.” Hey, web designer: Do you know why I went to the site in the first place? to go to the site! Why do I need to go to your site and then enter the site! It’s ridiculous! And then you want to all open another window on me resized however the hell you want. I browse with tabs. If your site breaks out of my tabs, you can be guaranteed that I won’t be staying on your site any longer than it takes me to click the close button.

Worst splash page ever: http://www.diggitydogresort.com
wow, that’s possibly one of the worst websites ever. Did they know they can use text, and not just pictures on their pages?
True that. Photograpers, web designers and musicians seem to have gotten into a habit of creating flash web sites where there’s virtually nothing on the first page, except a ‘click here to activate.’ Flash is good for embedding videos, but very irritating for navigating web sites. I guess they still use it because they’re worried about people stealing their stuff.
