Doing the Dew, Old School Style

I’m just waiting for the next extra $15 I have to start up Eve Online again. I love this game so much. If you haven’t played it, you need to at least try it out. It can take some time to get into the game, but you’ll love it! It’s a space MMO with a completely user run economy. There is only one server, so everybody plays with everybody else. Visit the Eve Online website to get a free trial.

I just want to remind you all about one of my great websites: At Work Arcade. It’s a great arcade filled with thousands of great games to keep you going during those boring times at work or school. There are some really great and in depth games, as well as those little games just to keep you going for a couple of minutes. Check out my At Work Arcade if you are bored at work, school, or at home.
If you don’t see a game on the website that you really want me to play, let me know! Just give me a name or even a description of the game, and I will do my best to find it and put it on the website for you! Just leave me a comment!

I just read about a great contest being put on by Shoe Money and Izea: I could be a Shoeperstar! It’s a trip to the South by Southwest Conference and Festival in Austin, TX, some spending cash, a hotel room, and an appearance on RockStartup! You also get to meet two really great, creative guys: Ted Murphy and Jeremy Schoemaker.
I’ve never actually heard of SXSW until now, but I can’t believe I’ve missed it. It’s a whole week of awesome new media technologies with everything from web design, advertisers, and social networks. It’s a great place to check out the new technologies and get in with the latest and greatest companies.
I want to go to this conference! I think New Media is where everything is headed, and most of the current media just doesn’t realize that. That is one of the reasons that I love RockStartup: They recognize that a TV show on the internet is something that is in demand and can make it big. Plus, they document a company that’s rocketed towards success ever since they started. It’s like a real version of the Office. I wish there were more TV shows online that I could watch that were as good as RockStartup.
If I went to this conference I would probably bring the Mountain Dew Armor and go absolutely everywhere in it, sparking curiosity in everybody’s minds (and also being in the Dew Armor on Rockstartup). I love taking the Dew Armor out because everybody wants to know what it is, they always gravitate towards it, and it really is a conversation starter for just about everything. I’ve done promotions in it, I’ve walked down streets in it, and we’ve even made a movie with it.
Choose me Jeremy and Ted! You can see the Dew Armor in person! And I love marketing ideas and basically what this whole conference is about! I have some of the craziest ideas, and I’d love to go to a whole conference dedicated to other people’s crazy ideas!
You could be a Shoepster! Check out the contest to win a trip to this conference!

For the past week or two my YouTube account has been shown as suspended. I have no idea why. The weirdest thing is that my videos are all still available, and I can actually log in, use the my account button, mess with my videos, etc. I had no videos against the TOS on there, and it seems to just be a bug.
I emailed support about it and a couple days later they responded and said it’s a bug and they are working on it. That was at least a day ago they told me that, and nothing still. I’m in no rush, it’s just annoying that it would happen. At least my videos are still online.

Now I’m not looking for a new host because I’ve been with my favorite one for 3 years now, but I am sick of seeing web hosting review websites that are filled with ads and affiliate links for web hosting companies.
I understand that they need to make money off their website somehow, but that really is a conflict of interest when you advertise for hosting companies on the same website that people review hosting companies.
The number one practice that I see on host review sites is either artificially inflating the ratings of certain hosts (specifically HostGator because they provide a bunch of affiliate banners), or just placing a web host at the top of a page of listings before the actual rated listings.
I don’t think there should be any hosting advertisements on the website. I understand that there may need to be a few, but the practice of placing them at the top of a list so it looks like they are rated higher, artificially inflating a hosts rating, or flat out recommending a host is wrong. It doesn’t accurately tell you which is the higher rated host by actual users.
Another practice is only allowing the reviews come through that they want to let through. I have seen Web Hosting Jury do this with some of my reviews. I have really lost trust in most every web hosting review site there is. I have yet to find one that doesn’t do any of the things I mentioned here. Somebody needs to make a real web host review site.

My favorite webhost ever in the universe is having a promotion! You can get a year of shared hosting for only $12! This promotion only goes to the end of 2007 though, more info on their website.
I’ve used Surpass for over 3 years now, with everything from a shared account to dedicated servers. I love Surpass! I’ve had nothing but great support and service from them, and I’ve also won a couple of competitions they’ve run. I actually won an Xbox 360 and a trip to Universal Studios Orlando! I also won an Autobiography book, which is still halfway completed.
I highly recommend Surpass Hosting for pretty much anything hosting related. They’ve got an awesome community of people just waiting to answer your questions, an awesome support team (that I will admit still needs to work on some things, but still awesome!), and the staff is the coolest ever! Go now! Or the flying shark below this post will come and EAT YOU!
