I’m so busy

I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been so busy. I am trying to get so many things done, along with looking for more jobs and continuing school. Everything has been so crazy that I haven’t really had time for anything lately. I just found out when I checked my email that it’s my birthday today.

I’ll probably continue to be insane busy throughout this week, so it’s not likely there will be very many posts.

I am working on design number… 500? for the new website for my church. I’ve been through a bunch of designs that I didn’t really like, and I created one about a month ago that I actually like. It had all the different sections that I wanted and actually looked pretty good. But I just scrapped it. It looks bad to me now.

For some reason all of a sudden I had some ideas. I sketched out a quick design and then popped into Photoshop and roughed one out. It looks awesome! It’s all pretty and everything, really looks very nice, clean, and organized. I’m gonna continue working on this more because I think this is the design that will become the website!

I’m also working on completely revamping Broken Fork. It will become much more than it is in the coming months, and I think by April we should be at the point to launch it as the new Broken Fork. There is so much to go into, but I don’t want to spill the details on it all yet. It will be full of win.

    Display your RealRank

IZEA just made their IZEARanks website live, and it includes an API so you can use the data however you want to.

I’m not too good at programming, but I combined a few things and made a simple button to display your RealRank on your website. It will look something like this:
    example.gif

If you want to use this, all you need is the one PHP file. Download it here

Once you’ve done that, open it up in a text editor like notepad and edit in your domain name and your API key. You can get your API key from your account page on IZEARanks. You also need to enter the path to the image file you want it to create. Then upload it to your server.

You will need to go to your hosting control panel and add a cron job. You will want this cron to run every day at about 3 AM EST (I believe the rank is updated about 2 AM). The line would look something like this:
    0 3 * * * php -q /home/user/public_html/realrank/realrank.php

I think you also need to make the folder where the image will go writeable. I am not too sure because i am on a different kind of server than normal.

Once you’ve done that, go ahead and visit the realrank.php file you just uploaded so it will create the image (It will update after that by the cron job). Then link to the image like this:
    <a href="http://izearanks.com/sites/yourdomain-com"><img src="rank/realrank.gif" width="80" height="15" alt="RealRank" /><a>

And it should show up. Let me know if you have any questions. This isn’t perfect, and I’m not the best at programming, but it’s better than nothing.

I’m going to be looking into how to read XML a little more in PHP and hope to make it so you can show your average RealRank over a period of days (user defined). Maybe add the little lightbulb for IZEA as well. and anything anybody else things of.

  • baconburrito_av.jpgIt has been our long desire (for about a month at least) to have a Chipotle burrito with bacon in it. At first we were thinking of bringing bacon in and hoping the cool manager was there and that he would cook it. We never really got around to it.

Finally the other night we had our dream burrito! We bought our burritos to go and headed to the IHOP next door. We kept our burritos hidden as we ordered some bacon (and a friend ordered a whole meal). When the bacon arrived we whipped out our burritos and added it in. The burritos were amazing! When you add bacon to anything it becomes the perfect food, but these were just so good!

The manager wasn’t very cool though, and got all upset at us for bringing food in. I could understand it if we only ordered like coffee, but two of us ordered bacon and coffee, two ordered drinks, and one got a whole actual meal. We also tipped really good. He wanted to kick us out but he knew he was wrong. Now I remember why I usually go to Dennys for this sort of thing, they’re not all stuck up over there. But the manager couldn’t change the fact that it was an awesome burrito.
