Doing the Dew, Old School Style

State troopers in Washington are now ticketing people who hang out in the left lane. If you’re in the left lane and people are passing you on the right, you are in the wrong. And now you’ll start getting a ticket for it in some states.
This is so awesome. I hate people who drive like morons in the left lane. Get out of my lane! No matter how fast you’re going, you are going to slow for the left lane if somebody is behind you!

I couldn’t agree with you more. If your driving in the left lane, and someone comes up behind you, move over. If there is a car to your right, and you can’t get to the right lane. Speed up, pass the car, then get in the right lane. I hate when some people get into the left lane, then slow right down. GRRRRRRRRRR!
How idiotic. Isn’t the penalty, according to LAW, deemed by the speed limit? Therefore, if you are going the speed limit in the left lane, and some jerk wants to go 80 mph behind you, why should you get a ticket?
The lawbreaker is the one going over or far under the speed limit, and the one passing in the right lane (which is not only illegal, but dangerous).
The law also says (in many states) that slower traffic must keep right, and the left lane is to only be used for passing.
It’s simple really. There’s a flowchart I’ve seen for this but it’s not all correct so I’ll make it up:
If you are in the right lane you are in the correct lane.
If you are in the left lane and there is anybody behind you, anybody in the right lane going faster than you, or nobody in the right lane: you are in the wrong lane, move over to the right lane.
If you are in the left lane and there is nobody behind you and you are going faster than any traffic to the right: you are in the correct lane.
If you are in the left lane and somebody comes up behind you: move to the right lane.
It is not your job to enforce the speed limit. Get off your high horse and move over. The only thing you do by blocking people in the left lane is piss them off and cause a more dangerous situation. Let law enforcement do the job that has been appointed to them.
Even if you think you are ok to be in the left lane because you are speeding a little bit, you are still in the wrong if there are people behind you. In fact, you are now breaking the law yourself by speeding and by being in the left lane.
Go with the flow of traffic. Stay in the right lane. The left lane was designed for passing. Stay out of it unless you are passing and not impeding traffic.
Good for your state! More states need to do this.
They do not do this in Las Vegas, except on surface streets. I wish they wouldn’t considering sometimes you have to slow down to get where you need to going, like the left turn lane. However, it makes perfect sense on the freeways and highways! I had always thought the left lane is for those who want to get where they are going, regardless if they want to speed over the speed limit. But my logic is because most times the exits are on the right side!
