Doing the Dew, Old School Style
Russ
For quite some time I’ve wanted to make a short film with a war theme. I’m thinking about 15 minutes in length. I was originally thinking about World War 2, but far too many films are made about WW2 so I want to think about something different.
I’m looking for some input, to see if anybody has any suggestions as far as a time period to use. We have a bunch of Soviet / Russian gear that we could use, and I think we could pull off one of the many crazy things the Russians have done. I haven’t really looked too much into all the conflicts they’ve gotten into but I am sure there are plenty to pick from.
I had wanted to do this in the winter, but it looks like it will probably get filmed this summer instead. I’m also still thinking about if I want it to just follow like one person, a group of people, etc. The less people involved always makes it easier to shoot.
What I’m really looking to do with this war film is massive experimentation. I want to play around with fake explosions, squibs, special effects, smoke, guns, bombs, etc. I really want to be spending tons of time in After Effects and Lightwave making it look awesome.
We’re setting up a green screen to use for the Youth Group so I’m sure we can use that for anything as well. I’m really just hoping to get some great hands on experience figuring this stuff out and making a really awesome movie.
If anybody is interested in throwing some ideas my way, or even if you’d like to help make this (I’m in the Colorado Springs area) please let me know. Your help is more than welcome!

Some people may know that I’ve been working on starting a business for the past few months. I’ve always wanted to start a business, and I’ve had just about a billion ideas for businesses. I still have a million ideas for other businesses, but I have made the first steps to starting a business that I think should do pretty well. All I will mention about the type of business right now is that it deals with video production.
I’ve already submitted the fictitious name paperwork so that I can legally use the business name to do things. I’ve also got my EIN. One thing I am still looking into is a business license / sales tax license. Apparently in Woodland Park you have to purchase a sales tax license to do business whether you sell actual products or not. I think this is kind of stupid, but Woodland Park likes to be stupid about pretty much everything they do. The sales tax license is $50 per year.
I’m also working on fixing up the business website. It looks OK now, but I want a real design made for it. I am either going to do that myself or hire somebody to do it. So if you do website design, let me know and maybe we can do business together. I’m also working on finalizing what I want the logo to look like and then will be making brochures and business cards.
Overall with the actual time I’ve been able to spend on this with the crazy work I have been doing, I think I’m doing a pretty good job. One of my friends will actually be partnering for me in this business, though we won’t be forming an actual partnership because he is not 18.
I’m pretty excited about this business and I anticipate it doing very well. I’ve always been taught to do the best at what you do. Whether it’s cleaning toilets or building airplanes. You should do your best. I plan on doing that with this business, and using the profits to start additional businesses.

According to somebody I work with, I was on local TV last night (Sunday, March 9th). Did you see me? They don’t know which channel it was. It may have been channel 13 or 21, but they said they saw my video where the Mountain Dew Knight fights a ninja. They also mentioned there was a robot, which makes me think the news got it off YouTube.
If you live in Colorado Springs and happened to see me on TV, please let me know! I’d like to know which station showed the video and see how they liked it! I would also like to let them know that the film will also be shown in the PPCC Film Festival in April! Please leave me a comment or email me at dewknight [at] gmail [dot] com. Thanks!
This is probably the video you would have seen:

This week has just been full of insane. To start it off I had to take some vicodin because of severe stomach pain. I turned out to be allergic to vicodin so that really messed me up. Then I just had so much work at my new job, as well as other work I have to get done around here that I really haven’t had a day off in a few weeks now and it’s killing me. I also missed a deadline for a class discussion for marketing, and have a paper and a test due tomorrow and then another paper due tuesday. Probably will get really bad grades on those.
On the upside… let’s see… Well I do have a real job now so that’s nice. I can continue to support my Mountain Dew addiction. Maybe I can also do some gaming again. Oh, I also found out some more info about our business and I think I’ll be able to start it much sooner than I had thought originally. Probably in the first week or two of March. That should be pretty awesome.
Work has also been weird. I think the cash register I use is cursed. For some reason most every time I use it my drawer ends up being off. Either by some change or even $20 once. Whenever I don’t use that register it’s spot on. Other than that I think I’ve been doing pretty good at work. I like working guest services and have been told I’m doing an awesome job. I’m also pretty much offering to do anything I can to help. I think it’s going rather well.
And that’s pretty much it. I have pancakes in a bottle. I still haven’t tried them. You just add water or something, shake em and pour em. I think they’ll be pretty good

As I mentioned below, I’ve been so busy the last couple of weeks with training at my new job. I work at a new family fun place called It’z in Colorado Springs, CO. It’s really awesome. They have great food and a great game room. And it’s so much cheaper than Mr. Biggs. I can’t believe people actually go to Mr. Biggs. They’ve got to check It’z out.
Mountain Dew has definitely kept me going during the past weeks. Unfortunately they serve coke products at It’z, but at least I can chug some Dew before my shift. Seriously, without it I think I might have just died. I’m going to down a case of Mountain Dew before our grand opening tomorrow. I can only imagine how crazy this is going to be. Plus, I work in Guest Services, so all the angry people come to me. Booyah.

I’ve been very busy the past few weeks because I’ve been doing a lot of research into starting a company. It looks like I will be going all the way with this and actually starting it, and I am very excited.
I’ve been doing just loads of research as far as what is required to start a business, any competition, products to offer, gear needed, etc. This will be the first time starting a business for me and I am so excited. I’ve always thought and been told I was the sort of person that should be running a business so I am going for it. I am taking business and marketing classes right now and have torn through the textbooks trying to get all the information I can. Those classes should definitely help me out.
I am also excited that this business will be doing something I absolutely love. I never really knew what I wanted to do until about a year ago. I took a semester of Radio & Television classes and confirmed my love for it. I am not going to really go into what the business will involve right now, but expect more information in the coming months. I want to get incorporated by the end of February! I’ve got tons of information lined out and I am working on getting all the plans and everything together.
I really think this business will be a huge success. There is almost no supply for it in the area right now (and what there is really just sucks), and certainly a great demand for it with all that is being done already in it. This is the reason I’ve been so busy and haven’t posted much. I am so excited and wish I could tell more about it, but I can go no further!
